New Committee:

First of all, many of our Library Committee members are back plus we have a few new ones. The Committee members are as follows:

Lisa Molloy, Sandra Gros, Le'o Moala, Norie Blanks, Don Blanks, Judy Lomu, Ana Tuifua, Kristy Butterfield, Denise Kakau, Farfum Barambola, Winnie Veikoso, Carolyn Wink, Karen Varndell, Hainite Mclean, Robert Klusener.

Scholarships:

Each year since the early 1990's we have given scholarships to worthy students in Vava'u.  This year we were able to assist 6 students from 3 different schools. There were three winners from Vava'u High School, one from Saineha High School, and 2 from USP (University of the South Pacific).  We will be having a special Award Ceremony for these students later in the month with a representative of the Governor present as guest of honour.

Fun Day in May

Every year the Vava'u Public Library holds a “Fun Day” for children of all ages in Vava'u.  This year the event will be held on 29 May, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Library.  There will be many fun booths of games and activities which will include face painting, a fish tank, a sponge throw, and ring toss among others.

In addition there will be a second-hand stall.  Anyone wishing to contribute to this booth should contact Le'o on 70-955 or Don 70545.

Special Projects

In order to keep the Library moving forward we choose a special project each year and carry it out.  This year we have two projects.

1)     We are planning to repaint the inside and outside of the Library.  This will be a big job and will take volunteers to work and/or donate paint and paint brushes.

2)     One of our Peace Corp members, Carolyn, is organizing the painting of a mural depicting the world and its peoples.

These two projects will help beautify the building so that users and passer-by's will appreciate the grounds and the inside rooms of our Library.
